Commission Showcase Normandy 1944
Hello folks, and welcome to today’s blog! In this post, we’re showcasing a small but exciting project I’ve been working on for one of our clients. These carefully painted pieces are designed to complement and expand their existing collection. Meanwhile, CJ has been hard at work on other elements of this growing army, which you can explore further here.
These models are all from Warlord Games, and the client is building up his British and German forces for an immersive Normandy campaign. One highlight of this project is the fearsome German Tiger Tank, a vehicle synonymous with power and intimidation on the battlefield.
Deployed in Normandy during the summer of 1944, the Tiger I was renowned for its thick armor and devastating 88mm gun, capable of knocking out enemy tanks at extreme ranges. However, its effectiveness was tempered by logistical challenges, such as fuel shortages and mechanical reliability, which were exacerbated in the bocage terrain of Normandy. Despite these hurdles, the Tiger’s presence often struck fear into Allied forces, earning its place as one of WWII's most iconic tanks.
To counter the formidable German panzers, the British relied on highly effective anti-tank weaponry. Among these, the 17-pounder anti-tank gun and the Achilles tank destroyer played a pivotal role. The 17-pounder, renowned for its exceptional penetrating power, was capable of destroying even the heaviest German armor, including the Tiger and Panther tanks, at considerable range.
The Achilles, a modified American M10 tank destroyer, was armed with the 17-pounder gun, combining mobility with firepower. This made it a formidable adversary on the battlefield, allowing British forces to engage German armor with confidence. The combination of these weapons significantly leveled the playing field in the armored duels of Normandy, proving that ingenuity and firepower could counter even the most daunting of opponents.
Also included in this collection are key support units that enhance the client's tactical options on the tabletop. A forward observation team is essential for coordinating devastating artillery strikes.
The British weapons teams add further versatility to the force. A flamethrower team provides close-quarters firepower, perfect for clearing enemy fortifications or bunkers. The snipers, dressed in their cool ghillie suits offer long-range precision, capable of picking off key targets or disrupting enemy plans. Lastly, the PIAT (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank) team brings a portable yet powerful solution to counter enemy armor, adding another layer of resilience to the client's growing army.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into the latest commission project we’ve had the pleasure of working on. If you’re currently waiting for your own project to be completed by No Man’s Land Studio, please accept my sincerest apologies for any delays. CJ and I are working tirelessly during this particularly busy period to ensure every piece receives the attention and care it deserves.
Thank you so much for your continued patience and support—it truly means the world to us. We’re incredibly grateful to have such passionate clients and can’t wait to deliver your projects to the high standard you expect. Until next time, happy wargaming!
